Executive Director, Black Mamas Community Collective

Nakeenya Wilson is a native of Fort Worth, TX

and has lived in the Austin area for 20 years. She is the first full-time director of the Black Mamas Community Collective and has been a part of the organization since its founding in 2017. Nakeenya served as a part of the Collective’s leadership team advocating for the improvement of Black maternal health within healthcare, legislation, and community education. Before taking on the role of executive director of BMCC, Nakeenya provided conflict resolution, education, and child advocacy services to individuals and families as the Founder and CEO of Restore Family Support Services.

Nakeenya is fiercely dedicated to social justice, and equity for marginalized communities and has dedicated her professional career, civic, and community service work to empower the underserved. Nakeenya knows first hand the importance of BMCC’s work having received vital pre and postnatal doula services while suffering from postpartum anxiety and depression after her third pregnancy. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering, cooking, playing board games with her family, watching movies, and going to the park.

Nakeenya received her B.S. in Communication Studies from The University of Texas and received and her M.A. in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation from Abilene Christian University after completing graduate coursework at the UT Austin School of Social Work.
